ACHAA is also pleased to announce that we have received funding under this program of $200,000 to continue our employment, programming, and support of our member network.
Given the changing environment of state funding for our organisations, we understand how vital it is for our members to receive this transitional funding to continue to achieve their goals and provide a living centre for living cultures.
The purpose of this funding is to provide arts and cultural organisations, local government authorities and service organisations transitional support to deliver arts and cultural activities. This Annual Program Funding from Create NSW is considered transitional because it is the last time one year funding will be offered. In future, organisations can apply for two, four, or eight year funding. This funding is a response to Creative Communities, the NSW arts, culture and creative industries policy, related grant funding is designed to support programs that support innovation, vibrancy and creativity within the NSW arts and cultural sector. This includes ensuring programming is diverse and dynamic across NSW, that the arts and cultural sector is accessible and culturally sound, and includes supporting employment and professional development for artists and arts/cultural workers.
The projects that this funding covers specifically includes Aboriginal Cultural Organisations’ conservation and/or development of collections and archives (including Aboriginal Keeping Places), alongside performing arts, local government gallery programs, and workshops that develop emerging artists. This aligns with Create NSW’s “First Nations first” priority which is part of the state government’s commitment to ensure that arts and culture plays a leading role in telling their own stories that shape the NSW identity. Given the huge diversity in nations, languages, cultures, and arts that exist in the Aboriginal arts and cultural sector in NSW alone, it is crucial that Aboriginal-controlled organisations such as our members are funded to run programs that honour the unique perspective of their communities, and this round of funding is a start on that reality.
