I Love a Sunburnt Country by James P Simon – This artwork symbolizes the rugged spirit, endurance, and adaptability required of those who have lived in and died on country and how for thousands and thousands of years it still continues. I remember when I was a kid and now as an adult when going back to Country, that after there were bush fires how quickly the landscape would disappear. But it would quickly start to regrow. For me the meaning extends beyond the literal heat and encompasses the unique, harsh, and resilient nature of the Australian landscape.

Just off the reserve at Bourke by Jeffrey Samuels – In dreaming to go beyond the property gate and into the hazy horizon line, I have through art and culture been united with family and ancestors. I walked on my Country where I was born to know where I am from, to speak to my ancestors. I recorded the moment in watercolour.

After the fire, seeds burst into life – now that’s inspiring! by Deborah Taylor – The imagery in this piece is based on my reaction to my local landscapes’ recovery after devastating bushfires. From a blackened landscape came small shoots of green. The trees regrew leaves and then magnificent, colourful flowers. The artwork represents the resilience of our flora and fauna to survive and thrive after adversity. 

Ancestors of Mungo by Nola Taylor – The Lake holds life, painted faces of ochre balancing on bark canoes, beneath is silence. There he calls out, the fin splashes just enough for the eye to see. Over the side he goes, spear and body embracing the first catch. Kookaburras’ laughter echoes across the Lake, waiting for ceremony to begin, beneath their feet is white earth surrounding the Lake as far as the eye can see.
