Callara Culture & Heritage Aboriginal Corporation
A home for family history and culture.
Callara Culture and Heritage Aboriginal Corporation are one of ACHAA’s newer members, but have been operating out of a community hub in Condobolin for 25 years.
Callara have a distinct focus on family history research, having published a number of family history books, which are available for sale, with a huge catalogue of photographs, records, and research kept in their offices. Photographs from this research can be viewed alongside a display area which features weavings, artworks, artefacts, and a workshop space.
Callara has completed a project in 2023 of significant community impact, in the form of a book named Miyagan murruwuy : "family tracks". The book’s Introduction states: "This work is about the Indigenous History of Lake Cargelligo & Euabalong & came about following an enquiry from two project participants, wanting assistance to document their family's story."
Callara has also completed similar family history works for the Wiradjuri family of Jacky Sloan in a book titled Miyagan Bala Yambuwan: Jacky Sloan of the Lachlan funded by Royal Australian Historical Society, and has organised a Sloan family reunion set for 2025 as part of this launch. This event will also include an art exhibition from Julie Hutchings, titled Battle Scars.
