Jingalu
Jingalu aka Melissa Craig (Gumbaynggirr/Bagawa & Yaegl). I left school when I was 17 and got into a Fine Arts course in Cairns. I got homesick, returned home to Gumbaynggirr country and started up my own Batik business. When I fell pregnant with my first child, I sold my business and I bought paints. I had a lot of support from Bronwyn Bancroft who mentored me and was instrumental in my arts practice. I had my first solo exhibition in 1994 at Rose Bay in Sydney at the Rainbow Serpent Gallery.
