Yarkuwa Supports Emerging Aboriginal Musicians
01-10-2026

Yarkuwa Indigenous Knowledge Centre has been supported by Sound NSW to develop their latest project, FN BEATS, that offers young First Nations musicians opportunities to learn from industry professionals.

It clearly demonstrates how ACHAA members can be focal centres for all art forms, not just visual arts, that are informed by cultural knowledge and experience in a culturally safe, positive environment.

Building on a legacy of supporting Aboriginal youth in their community through its own arts connections, Yarkuwa has developed this program with mentorship and knowledge sharing at its core.

The initiative offers a six-month online industry training and mentorship program, as well as an intensive in-person sound lab at Yarkuwa’s Deniliquin centre. This process is an opportunity for participants to be led by industry professionals and artists and expand their skills in song-making and performance, as well as other key skills such as marketing, event management, and stage production. This project will culminate in a showcase where participants can build on their learnings in a practical environment.

Beyond just songwriting and performance, this program has three stems for participants to choose from: core music and performance skills, behind-the-scenes technical training, and business and industry knowledge.

This is an opportunity for young mob to gain skills and connections to professionals and peers to help build and expand both their career and their community.

Head to the FN Beats Facebook page for more information and to submit Expressions of Interest.

Applications for this project close on 16 October 2026.
